3 potential trade destinations for Cam Reddish
By Ari Schwartz
This deal is less likely to happen than the other two, as Portland hasn’t shown any indication that they want to move Hart, or that they’re interested in Reddish. However, the Blazers are currently 12th in the Western Conference with a 21-24 record and have lost seven of their last ten games. If they continue trending down in the standings, they may start taking calls on their veterans, a group that would most likely include Hart.
Hart has a player option of $12 million that he will most likely decline for a long-term deal, as he’s been an extremely productive role player for Portland, putting up a well-rounded stat line of nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists on about 50% shooting from the field. If Portland doesn’t want to pay him, this would be a great return. Getting back a young player in Reddish who would be in a good situation in Portland, being allowed to provide some much-needed shot-creation next to Damian Lillard. Portland would also acquire a first-round pick.
For New York, Hart is a perfect fit in every way possible. He provides the toughness that the Knicks need as he plays above his size at 6’4”, somehow grabbing eight rebounds a game, and playing Small Forward for the Blazers. He’s also Jalen Brunson’s former Villanova teammate and the two are known as good friends, which can’t hurt chemistry-wise.
Attaching a first to Reddish is a price the Knicks may not want to pay, but it’s not all that valuable of a pick as it’s top-ten protected, and the Knicks have plenty of picks they can use to trade for a star when one becomes available. I’d say it would still be worth it to trade the first-round pick for Hart.
