6 players the Lakers should bring back at all costs next season
By Cal Durrett
Los Angeles Lakers: Anthony Davis
Before he got injured, Anthony Davis was having a career year for the Lakers. Davis averaged 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game and was instrumental in the team’s better-than-expected defense. Fortunately, the Lakers have gone on a bit of a run without him, but they’ll need him healthy both this season and next if they want to contend for a championship.
It’s true that Davis misses, on average, 20 games a season, but they could definitely still use him for the 62 games that he does play. That is especially true if he continues to perform at this incredible level. With both Davis and James under contract for next season, the Lakers have two top-15 players in the NBA.
Most teams can’t say that, so they shouldn’t have any excuse for not being able to build a functional roster around them. In fact, whatever they do with the remainder of the roster, it should complement the strengths of their two best players. With James and Davis set to return, let’s see who else the Lakers should bring back next season.
