Portland Trail Blazers: Offensive impact

Although the intangibles that Jerami Grant brings to the table are worth talking about, his ability to put the ball in the basket cannot be overlooked. This season is the fifth consecutive one in which he has averaged double-digit points per game. His average of 19.6 points per contest is the third highest on the team behind Lillard and Simons, and the team has grown accustomed to relying on him for a scoring punch in order to give them their best chance to win.

One area in which Grant has tremendous success is his 3-point shooting. He is currently shooting a blistering 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. While that pace is going to be difficult to keep up for an entire season, the fact that he is off to such a hot start means the Blazers have another legitimate 3-point threat to keep defenses honest. When the ball is dumped down to Jusuf Nurkic in the post, sending a double team is risky, knowing he has a myriad of options to pass the ball to who are all capable of knocking down the long ball.

While other off-season moves around the NBA garnered more attention, Jerami Grant’s acquisition by the Portland Trailblazers may prove to be one of the savviest moves by an NBA front office in years. Grant is a player who fits into the team’s playing style and has found instant individual success without disrupting the overall chemistry. The team is still trying to find its footing, but they are finding ways to win games.

With a talented backcourt led by Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons and a versatile big man in Jusuf Nurkic, the Blazers may have been one important piece away from being highly competitive in the Western Conference. Although he does not have a list of accolades attached to his name, Jerami Grant is a proven commodity on both ends of the floor.

He has fit in nicely thus far in Portland’s quest to return to the postseason. For those reasons, he is the most underrated acquisition in the NBA this past off-season.
