Ranking the 12 groups of siblings suiting up in the NBA this season
5. Evan and Isaiah Mobley
Another duo, an even younger one than the Wagners, who play for the same team. Isaiah is trying to break into the NBA, but Evan has a spot for as long as wants one.
Evan emerged as a two-way star during his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game. He led all rookies in rebounds and blocks and narrowly missed out on Rookie of the Year honors, given to Toronto’s Scottie Barnes.
Evan is having a decent second season, although he hasn’t yet made a big leap from last year and has encountered some sophomore slum problems, such as a growing foul propensity. But he’s still clearly a future star and a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
Hoping to strike gold twice – or simply trying to further appease Evan – the Cavs drafted older brother Isaiah in the second round of this past year’s draft. The big man was a First Team All-Pac 12 performer a year ago.
Isaiah’s long-term ceiling is not nearly as high as his younger brother’s, but he has checked into two games in the association this year. There’s no reason he can’t develop into a rotational piece as he grinds his way through the G League, though; he has a good IQ and feel for the game.
