4. Brook and Robin Lopez

The Lopez twins have been in the NBA since it started 75 years ago (or so it feels). While one is still a defensive force, the other is becoming a dinosaur by league standards.

Brook missed most of the regular season last year with a back ailment and didn’t put up the numbers he did in his previous campaign with the Milwaukee Bucks. That can be forgiven since the big man played a critical role in Milwaukee’s title run in 2021.

Brook is back this season, though, and looks more rejuvenated and energetic than he did all of last season. He’s also clamped down on the defensive end and is making a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year case early on.

Robin is not at the same point in his career. His most important contribution this season has been going out on a (slight) limb in seemingly speaking out against Kyrie Irving when nobody else did. No mascot fights to speak of yet to keep the fans entertained.

Robin is in the same division as Brook, playing for the Cavs. But the team’s young big men stars – including the aforementioned Evan Mobley – make Robin largely invisible. He’s typically only playing a handful of minutes per game, except in the case of injury.

It’s sad to think of an NBA without the Lopez twins, who have been patrolling the paint since 2008. We’re not there yet, but they’re up there with the Morris twins as a legacy group of siblings who are running out of time in the league.
