6. The Paytons

The Paytons are another small, successful, and still active NBA family. Gary Payton was the second pick in 1990 and spent most of his career with the Seattle Super Sonics, but won a title with Miami later on.

Most importantly, though, Payton was the first point guard in the history of the NBA to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. He was nicknamed “The Glove” for his swiping and stealing abilities. Not very surprisingly, Payton made the All-Defensive First Team nine times and was also a nine-time All-Star. After his career, Payton was inducted into the Hall of Fame and named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

He sent off his son, Gary Payton II, to follow him into the basketball world. His journey was far from smooth. Despite a successful college career with plenty of accolades, especially defensively, he went undrafted. After that, Gary Payton II bounced around the G League and had some short NBA stints until the Warriors decided to give him a chance.

With the Warriors, he quickly became a prime contributor to their latest championship run and one of their best defenders. Not surprisingly, Portland offered Gary Payton II a big contract, so now he will continue to build the Payton dynasty there.
