Milwaukee Bucks: Sharing the Ball

Even casual basketball fans know that it is much harder to stop a team with an evenly-balanced offense than it is to defend a strategy centered around one player. While Giannis Antetokounmpo is undoubtedly the best player on Milwaukee’s team and their number-one option, he is far from the only scoring threat the Bucks have to offer.

Currently, the team has four players averaging double figures in points per game. Jrue Holiday is averaging an impressive 20.1 points per game, with Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis each making substantial contributions as well.

The Bucks are a team with tremendous ball movement, and their core group of players has been together for years. There is no reason to believe that Khris Middleton’s insertion into the lineup will negatively impact the production of their four current scoring leaders. If this theory holds true, the team will have five double-digit scorers once Middleton is fully revamped and playing up to his former standards. That is the type of offensive distribution that makes it very difficult for opposing coaches to scheme against.

So far in this young season, the Milwaukee Bucks are looking every bit as good as the 2021 team that won the NBA Championship. While it is far too early to make a prediction that bold, they are already establishing good habits that could carry them for the rest of the year if properly executed. With a core group of players who have grown to trust each other over the years, the team is poised to have another impressive regular season followed by a deep postseason run.

This team looks like a well-oiled machine, and yet they are still motivated by last season’s playoff disappointment. They are good and only getting better; that is a scary proposition for the rest of the league.
