NBA Overreactions: 3 Playoff hopefuls smashing the panic button through Week 1

NBA overreactions No. 2: Brooklyn Nets are still trying to figure it out on the fly.
Such immense talent has graced the Brooklyn Nets rosters over the last several seasons, but a lack of consistency has been the team’s undoing. From trade rumors, vaccine mandates, injuries, coaching discrepancies and the New York City media market stirring the pot, this Nets team hasn’t yet reached the heights they set out for — but that doesn’t mean they won’t keep trying.
Brooklyn devastatingly lost its season-opener to the New Orleans Pelicans before narrowly escaping the Toronto Raptors in the following game. Superstar Kevin Durant still looks fantastic while Kyrie Irving bounced back from a rough first game to drop 30 points with seven assists in his second outing. Newly re-signed center Nic Claxton also appears to be taking a step.
On the flip side, it appears that Ben Simmons has yet to find his place with this team in a return from back surgery and a trade demand that brought him to Kings County. Fouls, turnovers and a lack of offensive aggression have plagued the 26-year-old thus far, but it’s still so early into the year that a turnaround is not only a possibility but a likelihood.
The same can’t be said of this final team barring drastic changes right away.
