NBA Overreactions: 3 Playoff hopefuls smashing the panic button through Week 1

NBA overreactions No. 1: Miami Heat face reality of standing pat in the summer.
Through three games, the Miami Heat have been mediocre at best. They collapsed against a Chicago Bulls team without Zach LaVine in the season-opener, fell short in a contested matchup with the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics and eked out a three-point win versus the Toronto Raptors. As per usual, most of the offensive workload is being carried by Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro while the team relies on its ball movement and quick actions to create good-looking 3-pointers.
All is fine in South Beach at the moment, but all the while, it’s clear that the rest of the East is growing while the Heat appear to be sticking to their guns. Involvement in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes sidelined some of their offseason flexibility, but even in free agency, the team didn’t pull off any serious maneuvers. Therefore, it’s going to be tough contending in the East.
36-year-old Kyle Lowry is shooting horribly so far this season, but the rest of the lineup is nailing their 3-pointers at an impressive rate. It’s been relatively quiet from Bam Adebayo, who should be asserting himself as a DPOY candidate. Ultimately, it hasn’t been a bad start for the Miami Heat. Just a bit underwhelming for the top seed in the East a year ago. They should be fine regardless.
