NBA players my girlfriend will admit are more attractive than me
NBA Player #2: Chris Andersen – Forward/center, retired
I’m just as baffled as you are. With the exception of Sochan’s wonky hair, it would seem like my girlfriend prefers the clean-cut look. I’m a prime example of that. Why on Earth does Chris Andersen, the Birdman, appeal?
To understand where she’s coming from, she actually knew who Andersen was before we dated. This will forever confound and amaze me. My girlfriend says she likes funny guys, and “the Denver Nuggets are a joke of a mascot.” She immediately thought of chicken, not gold.
I also think sympathy comes into play. Andersen was notably suspended in 2006 for substance abuse but kicked the habit and returned to the force. Inspiring and empathetic, Andersen appeals to people who want more than just on-court success.
It’s not like he didn’t have NBA success. Andersen played 15 seasons and won an NBA championship. He was also featured in Catfish, an MTV series about the falsehoods of online dating.
This is the second point that makes Andersen a sympathetic character. In the early 2010s, Andersen was featured on the show when he and an aspiring model were duped into thinking they were texting each other when they were actually both speaking to a Canadian minor. Given that neither party had any reason to suspect that they weren’t emailing who they thought they were, this is one of the rare instances of the older gentleman actually being a victim, with the young lady being the perpetrator. Andersen won some extra sympathy when lightning struck twice for him.
