NBA Free Agency: 9 restricted free agents hitting the market in 2023

4. NBA Free Agency: What is restricted free agent Darius Bazley’s market value?
One question will pester NBA front offices and Oklahoma City Thunder decision-makers heading into the 2023 offseason — is Darius Bazley actually a good player? My first instinct is to say yes because of his unique blend of guard-like fluidity at 6-foot-8; almost reminiscent of a young Lamar Odom at times. Although he’s far less of a playmaker than the famed sixth man, Bazley knows how to get himself open and put defenders on their heels.
Unfortunately, his efficiency hasn’t come along to meet the standard required. Bazley’s 42.2% from the field was a career-high in the 2021-22 season, and this came when he was confined to a lower usage percentage than the year before. If he can mature as a player and increase his ability to impact the game off the ball, Oklahoma City would likely have no problem matching a deal.
5. NBA Free Agency: Restricted free agent P.J. Washington should hit the jackpot.
Given the current situation in Charlotte, it’s reasonable to expect fourth-year forward P.J. Washington see increased shot opportunities and usage this season — just in time for him to play for a pricey contract. Shifting into a bench role, Washington was extremely effective on 2-point field goals, connecting on 11.3% more of his 2-point attempts than in the previous seasons.
Washington is active near the rim and fearless as a shooter. He consistently puts in effort on defense despite not being the most naturally talented player on that side of the ball. Furthermore, Washington has been a net positive for all three years since being drafted to a less-than-ideal situation.
Between a history of success and what will presumably be the best opportunity of his young career, Washington has a runway to liftoff into a lucrative contract in NBA free agency.
