15 greatest point guards in NBA History— No. 2: Stephen Curry

Steve Nash and Stephen Curry have a lot in common. Incredible sharpshooters, gifted passers, small-school collegiate athletes not valued enough on draft day, slim frames that don’t look like they can handle the nightly beatings of the NBA. Where do they differ? Playoff success.

Perhaps Nash could have elevated teams as talented as the Golden State Warriors of the last decade have been, but it’s an unknown. Curry is one of the greatest knowns in NBA history, with four titles and counting on top of the greatest regular season in NBA history.

Curry is an NBA cheat code — a player whose volume and range are both so great that defenses are simply broken trying to defend him. That space allows his teammates to thrive and his teams to win at the highest levels. No stats can properly quantify his impact, because his gravity is right there with Shaq as the strongest of all time.

We’ll look at the stats and accolades anyway, which are plenty impressive. Curry has eight All-NBA selections and two MVPs, including the only unanimous selection in NBA history. He is a two-time scoring champ and a four-time NBA champion. He’s the all-time leader in free-throw accuracy, 5th all-time in true-shooting percentage, and of course, number one in 3-pointers. By the time he retires, that record may be so far up the mountain as to be unattainable.

That’s the coup de grace on top of all of his accomplishments: he’s not done yet. The greatest shooter and one of the greatest leaders in league history is still in his prime; he could win MVP this year and/or notch another title onto his belt. He’s just outside the Top 10 among all positions, and probably will crack that list by the time it’s all said and done. It was a real conversation as to where he would land in the Top 3, and first was an option. Curry is that good.
