There weren’t many true contenders in the Central Division following the breakout success of the mid-2000s Detroit Pistons, and yet today, it’s one of the most competitive divisions we have. It’s home to an established title contender, a veteran team hoping to take the next step, one of the most promising up-and-coming teams in basketball and two young teams in very different parts of their timeline.

In the past, competition between the five teams in this division has largely been dominated by the top squad, but that might not be the case anymore. Any of these teams can sneak a win or two away from the other on a hot shooting night. Yet through it all, there’s only one team in the Central Division that’s truly vying for the 2023 Larry O’Brien Trophy.

1-sentence Eastern Conference predictions: Central Division of the NBA.

Cleveland Cavaliers: As chemistry with Mitchell grows, the team becomes increasingly dangerous.

Indiana PacersBelow-average lottery team that we hoop nerds will inevitably fall in love with.

Chicago BullsCan’t sustain last year’s success between Lonzo’s injury and Vucevic sorta stinking.

Milwaukee BucksGiannis is the best player in the world as health decides their postseason fate.

Detroit Pistons: Holy s**t, how in the world is anyone supposed to defend Cade, Ivey and Saddiq?
