5 NBA teams primed to see big increases in win totals for 2022-23
3. Detroit Pistons have the most promising young backcourt in NBA.
2021-22 win total: 23 wins
The Pistons are really young and they’re probably going to lose a lot of winnable games this season, but they have nowhere to go but up after finishing with just 23 wins last season. Michael C. Wright of NBA.com pegs rookie Jaden Ivey, 20, and Cade Cunningham, 21, as one of the most interesting new duos to watch in 2022-23.
The two guards have all the tools in place to be impactful from the jump at the start of the new season. They’ll get some guidance on how to be a pro from recently acquired Bojan Bogdanovic from the Utah Jazz, a nine-year veteran who’s averaged 17+ points per game in each of his last four seasons while shooting at a 39% clip from beyond the arc.
It’s a win-now move that’ll help the team win games and give the two guards a knock-down shooter that can attract enough attention from defenses to give Ivey and Cunningham room to operate when driving in the paint.
Also, the Pistons have a great group of big men: Marvin Bagley III, Isaiah Stewart, Nerlens Noel, and rookie Jalen Duren, whom the team moved up in the draft to acquire and fill out a future big three (Cunningham, Ivey, and Duren) that could be a powerhouse in a few short years.
That growth starts now, and the Pistons are going to keep getting better and strive to make the play-in tournament.
