San Antonio Spurs: Predicting the team’s leader in every statistic

San Antonio Spurs assists leader: Tre Jones
Despite not being the clear-cut choice to start at point guard with Joshua Primo being the other option, I suspect Tre Jones will still lead the team in assists. Jones is more of a natural playmaker and had the second-best assist to turnover ratio in the NBA last season. He also averaged 7.5 assists in 11 starts last year.
His court vision, sturdy handles, and ability to run pick and roll make him the team’s best playmaker at the moment. Even if he doesn’t start next season, he’ll still get plenty of chances to create for others. If he does, he could pick up where he left off last season and give the team the best chance to win with his proven passing ability.
This is in contrast to Primo, who has the potential to play point guard but isn’t actually one at the moment. Jones has a much higher ceiling than Primo, but Jones is more of a true point guard, and after losing Murray, who finished fourth in assists last season, the Spurs need all of the playmaking they can get. As a result, I expect Jones to lead the Spurs in assists by averaging around seven per game.
