San Antonio Spurs: Predicting the team’s leader in every statistic
By Cal Durrett
San Antonio Spurs rebounds leaders: Jakob Poeltl, Zach Collins
Determining who will lead the Spurs in rebounding is tricky since Poeltl could be traded either before or during the season. Otherwise, he’d be the clear choice to corral the most rebounds per game on the team. Actually, he still could, even after he gets traded, as far as averages are concerned. However, assuming he does get moved, I’ll include backup center Zach Collins as well since he’ll likely start following a trade.
Poeltl finished third in the NBA in offensive boards per game and averaged 9.3 overall last season. Per minute, he’s one of the better rebounders in the NBA, and without Dejounte Murray, he will likely grab a larger share of the team’s defensive boards. That would ensure that he leads the team in rebounding next season.
Once he’s moved, however, Collins could start and was productive as a rebounder last season. He averaged 5.5 rebounds in just 17.9 minutes per game, and that would project out to about 9 rebounds per game if he were to log similar minutes to what Poeltl played last season. That might be enough to claim the team’s rebounding title outright, but since Poeltl likely won’t last the season, Collins might end up with more total rebounds.
