Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis fights for a rebound (Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports) /

4. NBA 2K23 gave Domantas Sabonis a 71 offensive rebounding rating.

Did you know that Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis ranked eighth in the entire NBA in offensive rebounds per game? That’s all while being the focal point of his offenses as a creator and scorer with superb awareness in the post and expert precision when navigating box-outs. This makes it all the more surprising that he received a 71 offensive rebounding rating in this year’s 2K.

Sabonis is ranked behind 53 other players as an offensive rebounder including last year’s 52nd pick, Luka Garza, his former backup, Goga Bitadze, and his new rookie teammate, Keegan Murray. Though he’s usually not the strongest, fastest, or oftentimes tallest player on the court, Sabonis outmatches his opponents with skill and wit. He thinks the game instead of merely playing it, which helps him gain positioning on the glass to create second chances for his teams.

Beyond simply gathering the offensive rebounds, Sabonis would oftentimes finish the play as well. He also finished eighth in the league in total second-chance points and sixth on average. So if he’s a top-10 offensive rebounder in a literal sense and he’s scoring a significant amount of his points from offensive boards, his rating should be higher than players who won’t see the court.
