3. Juancho Hernangomez comes up big in the EuroBasket Semifinals.

The younger Hernangomez brother, Juancho Hernangomez, also left his mark all over the EuroBasket competition. Just like his brother, he showed a level of his game that we rarely ever see in the NBA. His presence was felt especially in the Semifinals and Finals as he secured both wins for the Spanish national team.

Throughout the tournament, he averaged 12.8 points and 5 rebounds and was solid all over. In the Semifinals, Hernangomez really came in clutch, and scored seven of his 13 points in the game-deciding run. Towards the end of the final quarter, he led Spain in their big comeback and helped turn a 77-70 deficit into an 83-77 lead.

Germany was unable to recover from that run, making the younger Hernangomez brother one of the deciding pieces in the Semifinals as he sent Spain on to continue their quest for the gold medal. In the Finals, Hernangomez was Spain’s best player, leading his team to victory with a real ‘Bo Cruz-like’ 27-point performance.

It seems rather unlikely for him to replicate this kind of scoring on the NBA level, but hopefully Hernangomez can show some of the same toughness and explosiveness for the Toronto Raptors this upcoming season.
