NBA: 3 players who can shatter Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game record
By Cal Durrett
Can any of them actually break the record?
Like Kevin Garnett said, “anything is possible!” While scoring 101 points is indeed incredibly difficult to do, it is possible, just perhaps not in the same way that Chamberlain did. In 1963, the NBA’s pace was much faster than it is now, and Chamberlain played 48 minutes the night he cracked triple digits.
As a result, he took 63 shots and had 32 free throw attempts. No player outside of Kobe Bryant has even attempted 50 shots in a game since the 1960s, and that would likely be a requirement to challenge the record. Additionally, the most shots that Doncic, Durant, and Curry have attempted were 36, 37, and 35, respectively.
On the other hand, the 3-point line wasn’t invented back in 1962, so that gives all three players a key advantage and would allow them to potentially put up points much quicker than Chamberlain did.
Overall, Doncic, Durant, and Curry rank as the players most likely to challenge Chamberlain’s single-game scoring record. However, the record has stood for 60 years for a reason, with only Kobe Bryant coming anywhere close to surpassing it. Therefore, we might have to wait a while longer for another triple-digit scoring outburst.
