NBA Player #1: Steph Curry

Of all the players that could theoretically score at least 100 points in a game, Stephen Curry is the most likely to do so especially since he’s already dropped 62 points in a game before.

After all, it would require a player to either shoot a very high percentage on a lot of 2-point attempts, draw and hit a lot of free throws, and/or drill a bunch of threes in a game. Curry doesn’t draw many free throws, nor does he shoot many shots inside the arc, though he is very effective when he does.

That said, he’s considered to be the best shooter in NBA history for a reason. His single-game high for made threes is 13, on 16 attempts. However, teammate Klay Thompson needed 24 3-point attempts to break Curry’s record. If Curry were to attempt as many while replicating his unconscious shooting performance, it’s not crazy to think he could hit as many as 20 threes in a game.

Even then, he’d still be at least 41 points away from Chamberlain’s record. Bridging that gap would require Curry to hit roughly 15 2-pointers and 10 free throws. It’s not out of the realm of possibility considering his career highs in both categories are 13 and 12, respectively. Still, knocking down 20 three-pointers, in addition to 15 two-pointers and 11 free throws, is a bit of a stretch.

Curry would not only have to break the single-game record for threes set at 14, but he would have to shatter it to even have a chance. He’s certainly the player to do it, but teams would try whatever tactics they could to prevent it, and he might not hit enough shots inside the arc or get to the free throw line enough to compensate.
