2. Guard Scoot Henderson, G League Ignite

So far, Jalen Green looks like the best player to come out of the developmental G League Ignite. Scoot Henderson could change that this year.

This will actually be Henderson’s second go-around in the G League. He debuted for the team last May and quickly showed what he’s capable of, dropping 31 points against the Santa Cruz Warriors in only his second game. At just 17, Henderson dominated the league. He averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. He hit 45 percent of his field goal attempts and knocked down 77 percent of his free throws.

Henderson is more of a traditional point guard at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds. Despite being shorter than many of his peers, the guard has little issue battling for rebounds and being a pest on the defensive end. He’s an elite finisher and has the athleticism to match with some of the best players in the NBA. Henderson is also speedy and can blow by defenders like some of the quickest guards in the league.

One thing Henderson can’t do well is shoot from the outside — at least not yet. The guard shot a horrifying 14.7 percent from three-point range last season. Considering the emphasis on shooting, best believe that’s been a point of emphasis for him to work on during the offseason.

He’ll also need to cut down on his turnovers, as he averaged 2.5 per game last season. Then again, it’s almost standard protocol at this point for the NBA’s top facilitators to also cough up the ball a couple of times per game, so that might not be a huge deal.

Henderson has a myriad of strengths and a couple of glaring weaknesses, which he can assuage teams about during this coming G League season. On talent and potential alone, Henderson is already a lottery pick. If he keeps coming along as planned, he becomes a player worth tanking for.
