The NBA is home to some of the best athletes in the world and many of them can do more than just play basketball. Numerous NBA players were multi-sports athletes before turning pro and some were so talented and flexible that they could have had a successful career outside of basketball.

With that in mind, let’s consider some of the best NBA players who could’ve played in the NFL.

1. Anthony Edwards would feast in the NBA or NFL

In a 2020 interview with Bleacher Report, Minnesota’s rising young star Anthony Edwards confidentially declared that he could excel at any sport. This sounds like a bold statement, but in regard to football, Edwards actually has some solid proof to back him up. Earlier this summer, he posted a video of him throwing some great passes and running routes on a training field at Georgia Tech University. Even star quarterback Tom Brady was impressed by the video, telling Edwards that he was “playing the wrong sport”.

Edwards was somewhat of a football star as a child. He played quarterback, running back and cornerback for the Atlanta Vikings and impressed at all three positions with his athleticism and skill. Edwards has not played an organized game of football since the eighth grade because he decided to focus on basketball instead.

Obviously, he made the right choice professionally as he is one of the NBA’s future superstars, but he still has a lot of love for football. There is a real chance that Edwards could have been good at the NFL level if he had continued to play football. Edwards is incredibly fast and explosive. He could outrun pretty much every other player, which would make him a great running back, but also valuable as a cornerback on defense.

All in all, Edwards is confident, fearless and an exceptional athlete and would surely have been able to make a name for himself in the football world.
