NBA Free Agency Grades: Oklahoma City Thunder

Signings: Luguentz Dort (5 years, $87.5 million); Mike Muscala (1 year, $2.64 million); Kenrich Williams (4 year, $27.2 million extension)

Trades: None

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to keep their plans for this season shrouded in uncertainty. After two years of tanking, gaining assets to take on veterans and handing rotation minutes to roster tryouts, they finally landed their big draft fish in Chet Holmgren. Will the Thunder now pivot to building a winning team, or do they want to stay at the bottom for one more year?

Their moves in free agency don’t signal anything one way or the other. Mike Muscala is a veteran stretch-big but he is back for a pittance and seems to be a great locker room guy. Kenrich Williams is a versatile combo forward who is now under contract at backup money for another four years.

The big move was declining the team option for Luguentz Dort and handing him a substantial raise, a five-year $87.5 million deal that sounds larger than it is after you filter out incentives. It’s a lot of money for Dort, but he is a solid wing who fits well with their young core and is now around for a long time. Nothing they did was bad, nothing was amazing, it was just fine for a team still keeping its timeline secret.
