NBA Free Agency Grades: Houston Rockets

Signings: Jae’Sean Tate (3 years, $22.13 million)

Trades: None (Christian Wood deal took place prior to the NBA Draft)

The Houston Rockets took on four players in the Christian Wood trade, then drafted three players in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft. As they fully embrace their rebuild, there weren’t roster spots available to add anyone in free agency, and the Rockets accordingly stood pat.

The one move they did make was to decline Jae’Sean Tate’s tiny team option and re-sign him to a three-year, $22.13 million deal. Tate has some long-term questions about his shooting and overall offensive versatility, but he is a really solid defender at a premium position and made sense to lock up.

There are decisions still looming for the Rockets, from whether they will trade Eric Gordon to a potential extension for Kevin Porter Jr. For now, a very quiet offseason nets a relatively vanilla grade.
