NBA Trades: Four teams that could make realistic offers for Kevin Durant
By Dylan Carter
NBA Trades: Boston got a taste of the Finals and will do anything to get back.
Shortly after initial reports came to fruition, Boston became the top team linked to a possible Durant trade. Charania previously reported that the Celtics offered All-Star Jaylen Brown, combo guard Derrick White and a draft pick for Durant; to which the Nets demanded the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart be included. With high-profile reporting already surfaced, it’s pretty clear what the Celtics trade package would look like.
Moving on from a homegrown All-Star would be difficult, but head coach-turned front office guru Brad Stevens has done a terrific job building this Celtics team up since moving into the new role. If he feels that this is what it will take for his team to win its 18th title, Stevens is going to pull the trigger.
Brown has a public relationship with Irving and his game complements Simmons’ well. The same applies to Smart, who brings a defensive edge and fearless nature that was sorely lacking during Brooklyn’s first-round exit to the Celtics. White, whose public image might be down following a poor showing in the NBA Finals, is a fantastic defender and underrated passer.
Including Curry in this deal is necessary for financial purposes, so the Nets might try to squeeze an extra draft pick or two out of the final agreement, but each team would get some of what it’s looking for and have four extremely entertaining meetings per year in the regular season.
