3 free agents still available for the Golden State Warriors to sign: Abdel Nader

Scraping the bottom of the free agent barrel with minimum contracts and very few rotation minutes to offer, the Warriors aren’t going to find a lot of players with upside. Instead, the focus is more on reclamation projects. One such option could be Abdel Nader.

The wing out of Iowa State was the 58th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, so for him to even have made it five years in the league is a feat. Nader has bounced around from the Boston Celtics to the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Phoenix Suns, where he appeared in 14 games last season.

When Nader does play, he has an intriguing combination of athleticism and instincts that make him a solid defender, with an elite steal percentage and a strong block percentage even as a 6’5″ wing.

That’s in the territory of Gary Payton II, Eric Bledsoe, and Matisse Thybulle. The Warriors could sign him and see if they get the good version of his shot (41.9 percent from 3 in 2020-21) to the bad (28.6 percent last season). If he’s not cutting it, they release him and add another player on the buyout market.

None of these are exciting options. Perhaps a player gets waived later in the offseason that they can sign, similar to JaMychal Green joining the Warriors. Barring that, their final spot or two will need to be filled with someone, and these three wings offer possibilities for role players who could fill a few minutes during the year.
