3 free agents still available for the Golden State Warriors to sign: Joe Wieskamp

The final one or two players that the Warriors sign will be deep bench reserves deployed only on nights when their stars rest or when they need a very specific type of player on the court. Joe Wisekamp would fit the bill as a motion shooter, a replacement for the Damion Lee role of the past few seasons.

Wieskamp was an absolute sniper in college, playing opposite Luka Garza on the Iowa Hawkeyes and hitting 41.2 percent of his 3-pointers, including 46.2 percent of his long-range shots in his final season on a solid 5.1 attempts per game. That skill was his calling card to a long NBA career.

That shot deserted him last year, and he only hit 32.6 percent of his 3-point attempts in the limited minutes he saw with the San Antonio Spurs. After drafting him 41st overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, he played sparingly as a rookie and is now a restricted free agent on a minimum deal.

If the Warriors sign Wieskamp to an offer sheet, the Spurs may just wave goodbye and let him walk. If so, the Warriors are a great place for Wieskamp to hone his off-ball movement and sharpen up that shot. If he can do that, there is definite rotation upside as a bench gunner.
