Poeltl NBA Game: 8 tips and hints to improve your scores
Poeltl NBA Game: 8 tips and hints – 6. Lean into your strengths
Poeltl isn’t a game for the casual fan. If you’re playing, that means you pay attention to the NBA and likely interact with it in a few ways.
You might be a diehard fan of just one team and ignore the rest of the league. It would behoove you to start with a player from that team every day. If the correct player is from that team or used to play for them, you’ll have a considerable head start.
Gambler? Mentally run through all your recent prop bets. NBA 2K Player? Recall who the computer kept trying to trade to you. Fantasy player? Focus on the names on the waiver wire.
You know more NBA players than you realize. Trying to remember where you would’ve seen some of these names in places other than just on TV can be helpful.
Poeltl NBA Game: 8 tips and hints – 7. Resist the urge to cheat
It’s very tempting the first time you run into a tricky puzzle to sneak a glimpse at the division standings or do a quick google of a team’s roster. But let a stumper marinate for a few hours, and chances are good that inspiration will eventually strike.
No one’s watching you, and Poeltl doesn’t care what you do. But it’s a slippery slope, and frustration can lead to looking up the answer quicker and quicker once you’ve started down that dark path. Stay strong. Accept that you won’t always be right, and that’s OK! It makes the wins feel that much sweeter.
Poeltl NBA Game: 8 tips and hints – 8. Have fun with it
Poeltl is a delightful puzzle. It truly is random, so you’re definitely going to miss some hard ones if it’s an end-of-bench player for a team you rarely watch. It’s just as likely to be Lindy Waters as Giannis Antetokounmpo.
But it’s an excellent way to stay fresh on players during the summer when the NBA isn’t always top of mind, and it can give an immense sense of satisfaction if you piece together the clues like a basketball-obsessed Sherlock Holmes.
At the end of the day, it’s your game. Feel free to follow these guidelines or make up your own. For example, most people don’t use silhouettes, but the game provides it to you as a handicap. Feel free to use it if that makes the game more fun for you! Start with a different player every day! Cheat if you absolutely must… just kidding, don’t do that! Whatever helps you derive the most enjoyment. There are no right or wrong ways to play.
Those are my tips. Let me know in the comments below if I missed any helpful hints. I’d also love to hear people’s starting players! You can learn a lot about someone from whom they choose to start with each day.
