NBA Trades: 3 potential targets for the Phoenix Suns not named Kevin Durant – Eric Gordon

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly had their eye on Eric Gordon for quite a while now. It was noted back in February by Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer that Phoenix was targeting Gordon before the 2022 trade deadline, but they ultimately did not acquire him.

The Athletic’s Kelly Iko (subscription required) reported that the Suns were among a handful of teams that made the Houston Rockets an offer prior to the draft, but it was declined once again. Despite their previous failed attempts, the Suns should attempt to trade for Gordon again, as he would be a significant pickup.

Gordon would provide more formidable scoring and shooting off Phoenix’s bench, hypothetically. Since winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2016-17, Gordon has given the Rockets a sizeable spark off the bench nightly, having averaged 16.1 points while shooting 41.9 percent on his field goals and 36.1 percent on his three-point attempts.

Numbers like that should be enticing for the Suns as they look to strengthen their bench ahead of next season, making it easy to justify Phoenix’s rumored trade interest in acquiring Gordon.

The veteran is currently under contract for $19.6 million next season, which is somewhat pricey, but it has clearly not stopped the Suns from trying to get him. The Suns have the assets to get a deal done this offseason, and they may be trying as we speak. Gordon is clearly a player they are fond of, and rightfully so, as he would be a welcoming addition to their roster this offseason.
