2022 NBA Free Agency: 3 PFs that need to be signed – Carmelo Anthony

Despite how turbulent things were for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, Carmelo Anthony had a pretty solid season. Even in his 19th NBA season, Anthony showcased that he could provide an offensive spark off the bench, and it is surprising that he remains on the free agent market at this time. For teams still looking to add a notable power forward before next season, Anthony may be their best bet via 2022 NBA Free Agency.

In 69 regular season games last season, a 38-year-old Anthony averaged 13.3 points per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three-point land. Having primarily come off the bench, Anthony oftentimes provided a sizeable spark in the second unit, and he is more than capable of doing it again next season.

Although Anthony’s defense is nothing to write home about, teams in need of more reserve scoring may be able to overlook that to strengthen their bench brigade with a lethal scorer that can space the floor nightly.

If Anthony were to be picked up, it would be on a minimum deal. Given his scoring, shooting, and affordability, several contenders should be taking a closer look at signing the 38-year-old forward.

Two teams that come to mind are the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, as the former could be in the market for a power forward after losing PJ Tucker in free agency, while the latter saw how impactful Anthony could be in their rotation last season. Only time will tell, but Anthony should be on an NBA roster before next season begins if he decides to continue playing basketball.
