NBA Free Agency: 3 best players for contenders to sign: Hassan Whiteside

Whiteside may not be a huge threat at the center position, but he is a traditional center that can hang with other bigs on the inside and is known for being a great rim protector. The big man has struggled to find a secure home as of late, but that could change in this year’s free agency.

In a limited role last season in Utah behind Rudy Gobert, Whiteside netted 8.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in just 17.9 minutes of play. Whiteside won’t need to fill any starting positions at center in the near future but could serve as a solid backup.

The Clippers could be in need of a center, having just lost Isaiah Hartenstein to the New York Knicks in free agency. While Whiteside plays a different style of basketball than Hartenstein, he fills a void the Clippers need from the remaining players in the free agent market.

Whiteside would be an underrated free agency addition and could help generate one of the best defenses in the NBA when the whole team is healthy, of course. While the remainder of free agency is NBA title hopefuls at this point, with a majority of the players available facing the end of their careers, these players, among others, can contribute in many ways.

Whether it’s being a mentor or making a difference on the court, contenders should sign these players before summer’s end.
