NBA Trades: 3 Donovan Mitchell trades for the New York Knicks
NBA Trades: 3 Donovan Mitchell trade offers from New York Knicks: Trade #3
Knicks acquire: Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson
Jazz receive: Evan Fournier, Cam Reddish, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, 2023 first-round pick (via Detroit), 2024 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick (via Milwaukee), 2026 first-round pick, 2028 first-round pick
Lastly, the New York Knicks could propose a monstrous offer that would target Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson from the Utah Jazz. The opportunity to acquire Clarkson, the 2021 Sixth Man of the Year, in a trade centered around Mitchell, could give the Knicks an even larger incentive to sacrifice future assets to create a blockbuster “win-now” deal.
Utah would value Cam Reddish, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, and certainly the five first-round picks that would be heading their way. Pick swaps could be included as well. This deal would also save them an excessive amount of money while creating desirable cap space next offseason.
Absorbing Fournier’s contract would be the only downside to this deal for the Jazz, but the veteran shooting guard seems like the most likely salary filler for the Knicks in a potential trade for Mitchell based on his position and annual salary. Julius Randle could also be included in a deal, but it’s highly unlikely that Utah would be interested in his services if they’re shifting toward a rebuild.
If Donovan Mitchell is traded this offseason, it would seem like a win-win for the Jazz to receive seven or eight promising pieces for the long-term future and create financial flexibility while the Knicks acquire an established star in their pursuit of contention. The New York Knicks have the necessary assets to construct a deal for Mitchell, so it’ll be interesting to see if they can make it happen before the 2022-23 NBA season begins.
