NBA Trades: 3 Donovan Mitchell trade offers for the New York Knicks: Trade #2

Knicks acquire: Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gay

Jazz receive: Derrick Rose, Cam Reddish, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, 2023 first-round pick (via Detroit), 2024 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick (via Milwaukee), 2026 first-round pick

Another potential trade offer from the New York Knicks in an effort to acquire Donovan Mitchell would be fairly similar to the first proposed offer, but this possible deal would include 24-year-old athletic forward Obi Toppin instead of an additional first-round pick.

It’s unclear if the Jazz are interested in Toppin, the eighth pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, but if they are, the Knicks could include him in a deal for Mitchell alongside other youthful talent and four first-round draft picks. Seven future building blocks while saving money should intrigue Utah in a return for Mitchell.

Derrick Rose would serve as salary filler to make the money work. Utah likely would not value Rose, but he’s basically on an expiring contract due to his 2023-24 team option and could always be re-routed to another team for additional assets.

The Knicks would have to gut a large number of their young investments and draft picks to land Donovan Mitchell in this potential deal. However, it would be no surprise if New York considered this trade worth the haul if it meant receiving an electrifying star for both the present and future.
