NBA Trades: 3 Donovan Mitchell trade offers for the New York Knicks: Trade #1

Knicks acquire: Donovan Mitchell

Jazz receive: Evan Fournier, Cam Reddish, Quentin Grimes, 2023 first-round pick (via Detroit), 2024 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick (via Milwaukee), 2026 first-round pick, 2028 first-round pick

Initially, a trade offer surrounding two young assets and five first-round draft picks from the New York Knicks could be enough to satisfy Utah’s demands in a deal for Donovan Mitchell. This potential trade would benefit both organizations in terms of maximizing the respective directions of their franchise.

The Jazz should be intrigued by two 22-year-old wings with still much room for growth, Cam Reddish and Quentin Grimes. Both promising contributors could be a part of Utah’s future plans while acquiring five more first-round picks would certainly enhance their long-term outlook. Evan Fournier would serve as salary filler in this proposed deal.

Given Utah’s high asking price for Mitchell, this trade offer would be the best-case scenario for the New York Knicks. Forming a starting lineup of Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson with Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, and Isaiah Hartenstein off the bench sure sounds like a playoff team that would only grow together.

Sacrificing Reddish, Grimes, and draft compensation would be well worth adding Donovan Mitchell to New York’s core for years to come as they aim to build a contender. In addition, moving off the last few years of Fournier’s four-year, $73.0 million contract would be an added bonus.

The Utah Jazz likely wouldn’t accept anything less than this potential offer in a deal for their coveted star. Nonetheless, a trade from the Knicks that includes five first-round picks alone should immediately attract Utah’s attention as they listen to offers centered around Donovan Mitchell.
