NBA Trades: 3 Donovan Mitchell trades for the Utah Jazz: New York Knicks

Knicks receive: Donovan Mitchell

Jazz receive: Evan Fournier, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Cam Reddish, 2023 1st-Round Pick, 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2027 1st-Round Pick

Yes, this trade would gut the Knicks’ youth. However, that’s the cost of doing business nowadays. The Jazz will almost certainly demand a haul for their young star.

For the Knicks, nabbing a hometown kid who grew up in New York to lead the franchise just makes sense. Mitchell is a top-notch scorer and fully capable of leading a playoff team.

Adding Mitchell to the roster would create a core of Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, and Mitchell. Mitchell would be able to take over as the leading scorer, while the rest fell into place behind him.

And for the Knicks, having the chance to add a young, perennial All-Star is almost too good to pass up on. Giving up on Toppin and Quickley would be rough, but again, that’s the cost of doing business.

Meanwhile, the Jazz would be getting a nice little haul for Mitchell. In all honesty, Danny Ainge would probably try to demand Barrett, but the Knicks should refuse to give him up.

Utah’s consolation prize would probably end up being Toppin and Quickley, who the Knicks would also probably try to hang onto, but they would need to give up something of value to get Mitchell.
