NBA Trades: 3 dark horse destinations for Kevin Durant: Memphis Grizzlies
Finishing as the second seed in the Western Conference this past season, the Memphis Grizzlies showed that they could be a legitimate contender. While some would argue that they should just keep their roster intact to compete with their core pieces next season and for several years to come, they could look to make a significant splash by pursuing Kevin Durant via trade, which would make them even more formidable.
The only untouchable player on this Memphis roster should be Ja Morant, given that the All-Star is well on his way to being one of the best guards in the business. Pairing Morant with Durant would form one of the NBA’s most exciting duos, as they would be must-see television.
Morant has been seemingly teasing the idea of playing alongside the former MVP after he recently posted a vague tweet reading, “easy money,” which is Durant’s nickname, of course. If Morant wants Memphis to pursue a trade for Durant, they should undoubtedly consider it.
The Grizzlies have an eye-catching number of assets that could allow them to make an interesting offer to the Nets for Durant. Jaren Jackson Jr. is among the association’s best defenders and is just 22 years old, meaning he could be a great long-term piece for them to build around.
Dillon Brooks and Desmond Bane could also be compelling young pieces with incredible upside, and the Grizzlies could offer a considerable amount of draft compensation to get the wheels turning.
Some may call it a questionable move for Memphis to blow up their core to acquire a 34-year-old, but when the 34-year-old is a player like Kevin Durant, it should be worth considering.
