NBA Trades: 3-team trade would land Ben Simmons on Atlanta Hawks: The trade

Hawks receive: Ben Simmons, Myles Turner, Patty Mills

Nets receive: John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Daniel Theis

Pacers receive: Jalen Johnson, Mo Harkless, 2023 1st-Round Pick (via ATL), 2026 2nd-Round Pick (via BKN), 2028 2nd-Round Pick (via BKN)

(This trade can’t occur until September 28 because of recently-signed restrictions.)

Let’s start with the Hawks. The Simmons addition has already been explained. He could play power forward for them, focusing in on the defensive end, helping the Hawks become a dominant defensive team.

Turner would play a similar role, but would simultaneously be a great frontcourt partner for Simmons. He would protect the rim and help the Hawks’ defense, but he’d also space the floor for them on offense.

As for Mills, he would simply be a solid backup point guard for the Hawks. After losing Delon Wright to the Washington Wizards in free agency, they need to fill the void.

For the Nets, this would be a solid haul for Simmons, Mills, and two seconds. It would help them stay competitive once Durant and Irving leave while also adding a potential young star.

Collins could bloom into an All-Star if given the chance, or at the very least be someone to give the Nets 20 points and 10 rebounds every night. Meanwhile, Bogdanovic could take on a big-time scoring role and Theis could backup Claxton.

Lastly, the Pacers would be adding a first-round pick and two seconds in exchange for Turner and Theis. This would add to their current draft capital while also giving Isaiah Jackson and Jalen Smith some breathing room to develop at the center position.
