Ranking the top 5 NBA backcourts after the Dejounte Murray trade: 1. Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry/Klay Thompson

They may not remain at number one for too much longer, but the Splash Brothers reasserted their stature in an inspiring run to their fourth championship. Curry cemented himself as a top-two point guard of all time, once again putting a space between himself and any other guard in the league.

For his historically high standards, it was actually a relatively poor shooting regular season for the two-time MVP. He showed up when it mattered most though, averaging 27.4 points on 39.7% three-point shooting during the playoffs despite starting it as a sixth man against Denver.

Thompson completed a remarkable comeback, playing a pivotal role in the Warriors championship despite being just 54 games back from a torn ACL and then Achilles.

The shooting stroke was still there after 941 days out of the game, with Thompson averaging 19 points on 38.5% three-point shooting during the playoffs. His defense may not be elite as it once was, but he did stand up in some huge defensive stops across the last three Finals games.

Speaking of defense, it’s an aspect that continues to be a constantly improving part of Curry’s game. He’s no longer the small, weak guard who can be exploited, visibly bulking up over the years to become a better defender and a better finisher around the rim.

The two remain the best shooting backcourt of all time, and having led the Warriors to another championship, they deserve the respect of holding this mantle for a little while longer.
