NBA Trades: 3-team Duncan Robinson trade for the Miami Heat: The trade

For the Heat, they receive a highly-effective and versatile forward in Harrison Barnes. A member of the 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, Barnes completed his 10th year in the league after being selected seventh overall in 2012. Highly durable, Barnes trails only current Heat free agent PJ Tucker for the most games played overall since entering the league.

A consistent performer year-to-year, Barnes is one of just five players who have appeared in at least 400 games since the 2016-17 season to average at least 17 points and five rebounds while shooting at least 45 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

The other four are Nikola Jokic, Karl-Anthony Towns, DeMar DeRozan, and Tobias Harris. The 30-year-old forward is entering the final year of a deal paying him $18.4 million next season.

In the proposed deal, the Kings are receiving emerging forward Kyle Kuzma. In his fifth season in the league, Kuzma averaged 17.1 points and a career-high 8.5 rebounds. A highly versatile scorer, Kuzma upped his production as the season progressed, posting 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over his final 35 games of the season.

Paired with Sabonis in the front court, Kuzma would provide a great replacement for Barnes, and at just 27, he still has plenty of years to perform at a high level. Additionally, the Kings will receive a future first-round pick as compensation for losing two key rotation players.

Then there’s the Wizards, who, in addition to landing Robinson, also acquire the services of point guard Davion Mitchell. Assuming Beal re-signs, Mitchell would be able to slide into the backcourt with Robinson stretching the floor as the starting small forward.

With the returning Kristaps Porzingis, who excelled after arriving in the middle of last season, starting at the center spot, this would provide the Wizards with a new and exciting nucleus moving forward. Considering the Wizards finished 26th last season in three-point percentage, Robinson’s addition would be more than timely.

In summary, the Miami Heat receive a proven veteran forward, the Sacramento Kings another emerging piece for their continued rebuild, while the Washington Wizards add some elite shooting in addition to an exciting young point guard talent.
