3 best point guard options for the New York Knicks to pursue: Kyrie Irving

Acquiring Irving would be on point with the Knicks’ track record – bring in a talented point guard with issues in the hope they provide the solution. Rose and Walker failed to provide that due to injury issues, while Irving poses a raft of primarily off-court issues.

Irving’s time at the Nets could be coming to a calamitous end, with the two sides unable to come to terms on a new contract. New York could be ready to pounce, holding the ability to complete a sign-and-trade with the Nets, or maneuver salaries to sign him outright in free agency.

Despite his issues, Irving is a supremely talented offensive player when on the floor. However, he’s never shown the capacity to be the best player on a title-contending team. At the very least, he’d provide an entertainment aspect to a team that was rather bland and uninteresting by the end of last season.

Bringing in Irving would also be unbelievably ironic given he, and by extension, Kevin Durant, spurned the Knicks for their cross-town rivals during 2019 free agency.
