5 roster moves the New Orleans Pelicans need to make this offseason: 5. Extend Zion Williamson
While this is one of the most obvious moves of the offseason, offering Williamson the max extension available is a true no-brainer. The only thing that would make the Pelicans front office pause is the amount of time he’s missed due to injury.
He has only played in 85 games in his first three seasons, missing the entirety of last season thanks to a foot injury. However, in the one season that he played, which was his sophomore season, Williamson averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 33.2 minutes per game. He still missed 11 games that season, though, but he was an All-Star.
What is going to be exciting for the Pelicans is that they have a Big 3 that is good enough to take on the rest of the league. McCollum, Ingram, and Williamson have not played a minute together on the court so they need to develop chemistry. When they do, this is going to be a tough team to beat.
McCollum and Valanciunas are under contract for the next two seasons, and Ingram and Graham are contracted for the next three seasons. If they can lock Williamson up on a long-term deal then they are going to form such a bond that they will be relevant in the West for a long time.
