5 roster moves the New Orleans Pelicans need to make this offseason: 3. Pick up Kira Lewis Jr’s team option

While Kira Lewis Jr. missed the bulk of last season with a knee injury, he is a nice spark for the Pelicans. He is not a good three-point shooter, going at only 29.8 percent from deep over his two-year career so far. The good news is that there is always room for a young player to work on his game.

Young is the right word for Lewis, as he is about to enter his third NBA season and has only just turned 21. He was the youngest player on the team last season, with only team superstar Williamson being 21 as well. However, Williamson turns 22 in less than two weeks from the time of writing.

Picking up Lewis’ option gives the Pelicans a level of security in the guard rotation. They just added Dyson Daniels, who played for the G League Ignite last season and is a tremendous combination guard/wing. If he does not work out, then the Pelicans still have Lewis.

The other option this gives the Pelicans is that if Daniels works out, and he most probably will, then the Pelicans have the option of moving Lewis. He would be a great asset to attach to any deal to help it get across the line.
