NBA Trades: 3 Dejounte Murray trades for the San Antonio Spurs: Charlotte Hornets

Hornets receive: Dejounte Murray

Spurs receive: PJ Washington, James Bouknight, Kai Jones, 2023 1st-Round Pick (via DEN), 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2027 1st-Round Pick

This is a juicy offer for the San Antonio Spurs, as they would be getting back to very young players, as well as a fairly young forward who still has room to grow from the Charlotte Hornets.

Charlotte would be giving up a lot in this deal, but they would also be getting the perfect backcourt partner for LaMelo Ball. Dejounte Murray would be able to cover up for Ball on the defensive end.

The offense-defense duo of Ball and Murray would be one of the best in the league, and it would also allow the Hornets to explore deals for Terry Rozier.

Plus, they sort of drafted replacements for both of the young players they’d be trading in this deal. They can replace Kai Jones with Mark Williams and James Bouknight with Bryce McGowens (maybe…?).

Meanwhile, the Spurs would reload their vault with the three first-rounders they were looking for, as well as some nice project players for the future. Both Bouknight and Jones still have a ton of room to grow, as they didn’t play much last year.

San Antonio probably won’t end up trading Murray this summer, but if they do, this deal from Charlotte could end up being one of the better ones on the market.
