NBA Trades: Should the Chicago Bulls trade for Rudy Gobert?
For a team that intends to build on their first winning season since 2015-16 first playoff season since 2016-17, would a trade for Gobert fix more problems than it would cause?
Again, this is a limited player who happens to be so elite at the things he does well that he can make All-Star teams and win awards, and the Bulls need the things that he excels at. But are the blocks, rebounds, and screens worth sacrificing spacing and offensive versatility?
Chances are that this won’t be a question that the Bulls need to answer, especially if the Bulls don’t want to include Patrick Williams in any trade for Gobert. They could easily focus on getting a couple of 3&D wings (someone like PJ Tucker, who Chicago has expressed interest in) and hope that the deeper perimeter depth and better injury luck will help them take the next step.
Of course, if you have the chance to get a three-time All-Star and former DPOY, you explore every reasonable option to get him, but, at the risk of sounding wishy-washy, whether it would ultimately be the right move for the Bulls would hinge on how they fill out the rest of the roster.
It could be the difference between progression, stagnation, or regression.
