NBA Draft: The best 3 draft picks of the 2022 NBA Draft: Chet Holmgren (and Jalen Williams)

Building a championship-contending from the bottom is a difficult task in the NBA. Mark Daigneault and the Oklahoma City Thunder staff are determined to make progress. After a disappointing 24-win season, the front office searched for talent that could improve their results on the hardwood.

Receiving the second overall pick in the draft came as a gift through the lottery. The 12th selection via the LA Clippers gave Oklahoma City a chance to improve by adding younger talent.

Chet Holmgren was the first selection made by the Thunder Thursday night. A seven-foot frame and dynamic scoring ability stood out to Oklahoma City’s front office. At Gonzaga, Holmgren averaged 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, demonstrating his work ethic on the low block.

With the 12th pick in the draft, the Thunder selected Jalen Williams, an efficient shot-creating guard from Santa Clara. His 18.3 points per game during his junior season included an efficient 39.6 percent three-point average. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will benefit from both selections, making progress in their rebuilding phase.

Thursday night was a special night for many young athletes. The chance to make their dreams come true became a reality, and now the hard work begins. As teams prepare for the season, eyes will be watching the newest members of the association. If they meet expectations early, their chances of becoming an NBA great may be one of many accomplishments.
