5 roster moves the Denver Nuggets need to make this offseason: 4. Re-sign Austin Rivers

Thanks to getting Murray back from injury, the Nuggets don’t need to make huge moves to get themselves back into contention for the NBA title. As such, re-signing Austin Rivers is a move that gives them some roster surety and depth.

While Rivers only averaged 6.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 22.1 minutes per game, he offers the team an x-factor. He has the ability to score in bunches. It is hard to forget when he was playing with the LA Clippers the perfect shooting night he had.

He also filled up the box score when he was with the Houston Rockets, collecting a career-high 41 points. Even this season with the Nuggets, Rivers had a 25-point effort. However, the Nuggets would be wise not to rely on his production as it is sporadic.

As Rivers has been bouncing around the league since he spent his three and a half seasons with the LA Clippers. His best chance of winning a championship as a meaningful contributor would appear to be with the Nuggets so he should accept a veteran’s minimum deal or slightly above over two seasons.

If the Nuggets play it right, they should have either a team option or not guarantee the deal for the second year.
