The Golden State Warriors just ended the Boston Celtics’ season
They don’t care. Harsh or not, it was evident with the exception of the third quarter that the Boston Celtics didn’t care, and it showed in Game 5.
How else should one describe the turnovers, missed free throws, and inefficiency as a unit overall that led to a 104-94 loss. A loss that now leaves Boston trailing for the first time in the Finals, with the potential last game of the season back in their house.
The inability to play consistently solid basketball in the postseason has finally caught up to this bunch at the worst time, losing their first back-to-back postseason games. TD Garden will likely have a trophy ceremony at the end of Game 6 for Steve Kerr and the visitors.

Steph Curry started slow and did not replicate his Game 4 performance. Still, his assistants contributed to the masterclass meal, reminding Ime Udoka’s troops about who is the superior player and team. Curry, while 0-9 from three, still scored 16 points. He’ll be just fine, much to Boston’s detriment.
Klay Thompson finished the night with 21 points, while Draymond Green, struggling all series, seems to have finally turned the corner and realized who he was. Don’t forget young Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, and Jordan Poole, either, all of whom grew up at Boston’s expense and dropped 26, 15, and 14, respectively.
Meanwhile, for the C’s, do we need to say much? Jayson Tatum? He may idolize Kobe Bryant, but the late great Laker is likely looking down on the Celtics star with a frown on his face. Once again, despite having solid numbers, Tatum could not help himself from giving up the ball. 27 points on 10-for-20 shooting with four turnovers.
The rest of the team is not exempt from detention either. Jaylen Brown will have to serve as time as the others, having scored 18 points on 5-18 shooting, ultimately failing to deliver. Al Horford and Marcus Smart? Not much to report on them. Robert Williams does deserve some sympathy, playing on sore legs, but to a degree. If you step on the court, you have expectations.
Sure, the officials have a lot to do with what happened at the Chase Center, including several egregious calls. And if you listened to the broadcast, you could have sworn that it was the Golden State Warriors team commentating on ESPN. But that’s not the story. This team is too inconsistent.
Outside of the third quarter, where Boston came out aggressive until Poole banked in a three-point shot at the buzzer, the Celtics could not get out of their way, and it will cost them on Thursday. Unless they happen to show up in Game 6, and they just might, but then again, Game 7 at Golden State? Yup. Good season Boston.
Face it. This team that rebounded from below 0.500 (20-21), that went on this run that eliminated the three teams that beat them in postseasons prior, will likely be given their elimination tickets in front of their home crowd, and along with Green getting the last laugh on Lucky.
Ouch.
