It looks like Klay Thompson was a prophet after all. Or at least, for tonight. The Golden State Warriors will keep things even, again, at least for now.
A 107-97 road victory at TD Garden in Game 4 against the Boston Celtics has Golden State heading back home with a best-of-three series remaining in the NBA Finals.
But back to Thompson. He said that this series is similar to when Golden State was down 2-1 back in 2015 before they ran off four straight to capture their first championship that started this great run. So far, he’s off to a good start.
If anything, the Warriors’ early struggles from beyond the arc proved that even when they are not on their game, they can still win. Sounds like a championship team that has been here before and thrived. The main hero of this engine? Isn’t it obvious? It’s Steph Curry?
The Golden State Warriors started slow but came on strong to tie the NBA Finals at two games apiece against the Boston Celtics
Despite a tough first half, Curry rebounded and delivered, finishing with 43 points, ten rebounds, and four assists. Thompson finished with 18, while Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole recorded 17 and 14, respectively. Draymond Green, again, had a bad stat line with just two points, but when you win and get nine rebounds, all is forgiven.
For the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum followed up his Game 3 performance with a rough showing in Game 4, finishing with 23 points on 8-of-23 shooting. Jaylen Brown thrived with 21 points, but it was all in vain. Their main culprit was the 15 turnovers. Oh, and the amount of abysmal shooting that went along with it.
Golden State should feel fortunate that, despite their own off night, they managed to pull the game out and now head back home with a chance of their own to grab a firm grip on the series. Sure, Boston has not lost back-to-back games this year, but this Warriors team looks like they are on a mission.
It is entirely possible that Thompson’s glimmer of hope proclamation may come true. That would certainly make several folks happy. But it will take a better effort in Game 5 to ensure that their next trip to Boston might be the one for a chance to win it all. Time will tell if that comes true.
