5 roster moves the Brooklyn Nets need to make this offseason: 4. Sign a rim protector
The last time that the Nets had a true defensive presence in the middle was prior to the James Harden trade. They sent Jarrett Allen to the Cavaliers as part of the four-team trade that bought the star guard to the Nets.
Unfortunately for the Nets, they did not win a championship with Harden, and he has now moved on to the Philadelphia 76ers. While Simmons, who the Nets received in return, is going to help the Nets defensively, they still need someone in the middle to protect the paint and finish the lobs thrown to them by their star teammates.
If Daniel Gafford was less injury-prone, then he would be a tremendous energy guy in the middle. The first two moves of this article were to get rid of players, partially based on their injury history. However, there are some quality big men on the market who could perform this function.
JaVale McGee would fit this role well, as he is an athletic big who can read the play. Another player who fits the bill is Hassan Whiteside. The veteran big man has shown the ability to protect the rim like so few others in the league right now.
