5 roster moves the Cleveland Cavaliers need to make this offseason
Offseason roster moves the Cleveland Cavaliers need to make: 5. Re-sign Collin Sexton
Before his injury last season, Sexton showed that he makes this team very hard to beat. He has such a good connection with his backcourt partner that opposing defenses have a very hard time stopping this dynamic duo.
Due to a lack of winning prior to last season, the Cavaliers and Sexton did not come to an agreement on his rookie extension. However, the way the team looked last season when Sexton and Garland were firing should make both parties more amenable to signing a deal this offseason.
Thanks to not getting the deal done last season, the Cavaliers have potentially opened themselves up to market value, but they should extend Sexton a qualifying offer. There is a good chance that the guard takes it, which may help the Cavaliers out when it comes to shaping their roster in the coming seasons.
Depending on how he recovers from his injury, Sexton’s value is currently uncertain. There are currently three teams reportedly showing interest in him, per Jason Burgos of Sportsnaut. These are the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, and Indiana Pacers. If winning is important to Sexton then he should re-sign with the Cavaliers.
